For your company to be considered as a supplier / vendor to School Districts, you will almost certainly need to be registered with either the School District or the State the School District is in.
Each State or School District has its own rules and processes for achieving this registration, some will allow you to complete the entire process online, others may allow you to download the application form from their website, whilst some are still relatively paper based and will require you to request an application form / packet by phone, and they will mail it out to you for completion.

In our personal lives, we are used to the idea of getting a contractor to give us an estimate or a quote for completing a proposed piece of work. An estimate is just what it says – A rough price for the job, which may go up or down as the job progresses…….usually up of course!
A quote for a job should be a firm price, where the contractor has properly investigated and costed the job. The price in their quote / quotation should not change through the life of the job, unless you make changes to your specification, or otherwise agree to a change requested by the contractor.
Dealing with Governmental agencies, however, is usually not so simple. We have dealt separately with the bidding process, but there is some other terminology you need to be familiar with:

Given the target market – School Districts and / or States – you need to accept that this is a very bureaucratic process. That said, don’t allow yourself to be put off, but see it more as a challenge to complete each and every detail of the requested information, checking and rechecking your documentation prior to submission. Many other bidders may fail due to their lack of attention to detail, rather than their price – Don’t let your business fall into that category!
